Password Keepers
Once I decided I needed a password keeper, deciding on which one to get was a challenge. I wanted one that would let me input the passwords for sites I already use and I really like the idea of a random password generator.
Here are a few of the password keepers I have checked out.
LastPass, free. This password keeper stores all of your passwords in a database on the web. This password keeper will generate passwords and has a form filler. Very handy for folks that use more than one computer.
KeePass, also free. This password keeper is easy to use and you can organize passwords according to type, as in email, forums, etc.
Callpod This password manager is not free, but is not expensive. The license is for two computers. I like this password keeper only because I can 'see' the actual passwords. Since I wanted to enter existing passwords in the program, this is an important feature. However Callpod does not have a password generator and since very strong passwords are extremely important, this keeper is probably not the best option.
Roboform seems to be the most popular password keeper. The free version will save ten passwords but if you need more you will have to purchase Roboform Pro. It is also a form filler and password generator. Since I need way more than ten passwords I would have to buy the Pro version if I decided to use Roboform. So far this one looks really good and it is on my final list.
Update! I found just what i was looking for with Password Safe. This passwod keeper is open source and free. I have control over my passwords. I can edit view, make notes, etc and is just the what I want.
